They begin when they begin. Yes all countries gave to agree with the negotiated offer. It's one of the reasons negotiating with the EU is a near impossible task.

Didn't the CETA negotiations last about 8 years?

I expect an attempt to make an example, but in the long run Britain will prosper outside of the EU.

I think so. That's not unusual at all for a free trade agreement. I think the EU's original intention was to design CETA in such a way that it could be used as template for TTIP and trade deals with other countries, which would be a time-saver. However, Brexit is more than a mere trade deal.

By the way, I read this yesterday: Australia and Canada urge UK to join ready made trade deals such as Nafta, TPP

NAFTA membership for Britain is an idea that has been around for awhile. Some years ago the idea was supported by some UK and US politicians.

Oddly, a UK in NAFTA would be in a position similar to Mexico.

Mexico negotiated a trade deal with the EU, which came into force in 2000.

Mexico and Canada have trade agreements with EFTA.

Came across an article online, dated March 15, 2017: "As TTP Falters, New Zealand Keen For Pacific Alliance Trade Deal". The founding members of the Pacific Alliance-Colombia, Peru, Mexico and Chile-have indicated that they are ready to collectively make trade deals with other countries. There is to be a new associate status.

This is the trade group that Martin Hutchinson was so enthusiastic about. He has commented that these countries complement the British economy.

This comes at a time when the Panama Canal expansion is complete.

In the Autumn after the German elections.
And yes they do which is why I think there's likely to be a transitional arrangement to continue with negotiations which won't be concluded within 18 months.

That just about sums up your contribution to these boards. Even when people are trying to make serious points, you just respond with silly non-comments like that.

Nope chance of a good agreement reached... the UK dosent even have an experienced negotiating team yet.

Agree that some kind of transitional arrangement is required, which does introduce further problems with deals outside the EU as the final position won't be known.
