I got freezing rain here. Pretty interesting temp map right now. Its above freezing at the mid level of atmosphere from a south push but snowpack and arctic air keeping the surface below freezing. So its falling as rain but refreezing at the surface. A Plane skidded off the JFK runway because of the ice.

Tuesday is looking pretty nasty, in terms of cold temps (also see far left side of bottom-most graph).

Thanks! Did you guys know they are closing schools in the Midwest because of the cold? The Wind Chills are going to be sick. The piece of air that broke off the Pole heading south is no joke.

I quickly looked at Rutland, VT extreme temps and they are all in the negative 20s. So it's pretty interesting how it's near extremes even down to the coast but you guys seem to be escaping the extreme.

Tonight From BTV:

(taking effect at 5 PM today to 6 AM Monday) for light freezing rain and sleet. Expect untreated roadways and sidewalks to become slippery tonight across the North Country, though the areas of greatest impact are in eastern Vermont and the Saint Lawrence Valley.

These temp swings are getting crazy. Supposed to hit 40 tomorrow and then back down to 8 on Tuesday. I need to buy ice skates for my driveway.

Yeah the range is pretty nuts in some spots. I was trapped today. Was supposed to get to 40 by early afternoon but it stayed below freezing till 2 and at freezing to 5pm so none of the ice melted. There was sheets of ice everywhere. Snowpack has a thin layer too now.

My little crooked spruce with a little glaze of ice. You can tell the 5" snowpack how shiny it is on top.

Pouring rain here for the last half hour but not sure what's happening when it hits the ground...got an email from our condo property manager that all the driveways/roads/etc at the complex are covered in a thick sheet of ice and to be careful if heading out (our condo is very close to Mansfield). Haven't been out here yet (dogs won't go out in the rain lol) but from what I can tell the snow on the driveway is mostly gone.

50 degrees and pouring rain in the Burlington area. Mass power outages last night with freezing rain bringing down trees and power lines. For the Burlington area we should see ice this evening when temps are going to drop into the 20's. I agree, this is crazy weather. Single digits again tomorrow then by the end of the week into the weekend we are looking at 30's-40's.

Be safe guys. Front coming through now and some impressive temp drops with it. About 10-15 degree drops within couple hours.

Current radar and temps with 10m winds. Notice the arrows showing the south Winds and the West Winds. In between is the passing front.

I had a mini squall line with 35mph winds. Went from South and changed from NorthWest now. Front came through.

Watertown 49F to 32F in 4 hours.

982mb low north of NY by couple hundred miles in Canada now. Track was from Texas to Great Lakes which pushed the warm air up on the west side of the low. My half foot snowpack is gone in matter of 12hrs between Fog, Rain and mid 50s..
