Still above freezing in central Addison county, drizzle and disappearing into a fog bank.
Last year this time had that horrible WIND storm lost power, uprooted trees then promptly FROZE so we were stuck with the mess till Spring.........

Currently in northern Addison County and 27 degrees and raining. Summerz-where are you? I think the front is sitting somewhere between here and Middlebury.

I use Intellicast a lot for the surface map. I love the graphic.
Intellicast - Mixed Surface Analysis in United States

Sometimes you can tell with the clouds but its too widespread today.
Sometimes you can tell with the temps and dewpoints and even that's almost tough today. I drew a line where I think it is. Here's the current dew points. Drier to north of front, more moist to south.

here's NOAA Surface map. http://www.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/sfc/radsfcus_exp.gif

Or a clearer image of NOAA's. This image below is live so will change.

Keep an eye on that waffling because its moving north and south that front and that will make the difference of what precip you get. You'll know if it shifted south of you when you're getting frozen stuff.

I'm not going anywhere either! Our driveway is a sheet of ice!
Cambium...that line looks about right! Though I think it may be a couple miles south of where you have it. Crazy weather!

Someone on the CT Weather thread made an excellent Point!! Reason for ice is because there's a layer above the surface that temps are above freezing. So its safer and better when you're at a higher elevation because of that warm layer in the atmosphere.

It depends where that warm layer is setup too. Could be 3000' could be 1000'.

Here's the current setup over Burlington. Spot to be is above 2000' where it's raining.

And here's Waterbury for 10pm. Pretty much the same where the surface is below freezing and you have the warm layer above. This is ice.

This is a long duration event. Wow. And even looking at the morning stuff the lower level cold gets thicker so maybe a change to sleet eventually. Gees, I hope its not too bad for you guys.

Mountains are seeing rain with this setup

Ice amount forecast. Anything over 0.30" I personally worry about, add wind and that's just trouble. Not sure if wind is an issue though.
