Lake effects are happening now through tomorrow and be more scattered after tomorrow afternoon. The heaviest amounts will stay closer to the lakes but you know how it goes. you can get caught in a band well away from the lakes and it will be heavy but short lasting. Lake effect rarely a widespread heavy accumulation event.

Here's TWC forecast.

Thanks for the quick response. We will be heading up western PA into NY near Erie, PA.

We will most likely leave around noon so that means we will be in the pink area around 2 or 3 pm.

I wonder if we should cut across southern PA and enter NY via Scranton, PA to Albany instead.

OMGoodness! The western part of the souther tier was a disaster this afternoon. We saw cars spin around three or four times in front of our car. Luckily, I'm a stickler for stopping distance. We also saw lots of abandoned cars and accidents. Accumulation wasn only a couple of hinches but the roads were terrible from the state line near Erie, PA until about Hornell, NY. When I return home in a few days, I'm going to cut through the Poconos instead and travel west via PA instead of NY. It was clear from Hornell until Albany, then it was light flurries and black ice.

Not good. I bet a lot of people got caught off guard since it wasnt advertised too much.

Here's the snow depth from National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center. I had to piece the regions together.

We just got back up last night and it's really coming down here in Stowe right now (well at least close to the mountain, not sure what's happening in town). Seems like we got over an inch last night too.

Champlain Valley has had some snow this morning. Apparently 89 was a mess.

We got very little snow near Rutland (a decent dusting in the mountains) but it was enough for a bridge to ice over on rt 7 and a woman to get killed in a crash.

Some snow heading into Vermont but nothing like whats happening out west. Snow levels to drop to 2500 feet but guess what happens when 10 inches of liquid falls as snow above 7000'?

Clue: Over 14 feet of snow.

Mt Shasta - 14 to 18 feet (5½ m) of snow in next 72 hours
