Great picture, Chaz! Thanks for sharing your beautiful view!

For anyone who is interested, there was a nice article about the New England Lost Ski Areas Project; it ran February 10th in the Rutland Herald/Times Argus (in the Vermont Sunday Magazine section). I'm sure you can look it up in their archives.

And everyone cept Killington will close with awesome top to bottom coverage because everyone down country is finished skiing and playing golf....Just like every spring.

You'll be able to do some super hike up skiing this spring though.

Truckermans might be rolling till the 4th of July.

Outside my home in Burlington, the snowdrops are poking through, the grass is about to green up, ...and the Spring ski season is just starting. If you like skiing when it's cold and the conditions are likely to be lousy, come ski in December and January. If you like skiing in a ballcap, cotton turtleneck and a windbreaker - with heavy sunscreen on your face... come now: late March, April and even into May.

I went on Friday for the 17 dollar St Patricks Day special at one of the several local Vermont areas which offers deals throughout the season. It was cool getting in the car in the morning, just cool enough for perfect Winter conditions for about an hour in the morning, and then climbed into the 50's during the day. I went various places throught the day, following the sun, marveling at the scenery, and skied everything from cruisers in the morning and the woods before lunch, to soft easy bump runs in the afternoon when the snow had really softened up. I started out in a windbreaker and ended up in nothing but a synthetic tee shirt and a cotton turtleneck.

I brought two friends - one who read a book on the deck for most of the day in the sun, (we all had lunch together on the deck: BBQ, deli sandwiches, a cold one or two) and one who was amazed at how easy the trails (some of which she wasn't sure she'd be able to ski well) we skied were just because the snow was so soft.

It was warm enough that I ran the a/c in the car, driving home the scenic route.

I just thought I'd share this before you put your skis away for the season. There's a month or more of of the good stuff left up there...

I took a rare day off and took a friend to Jay Peak.

The weather forecast predicted rain.

We skied for 5 hours...

We saw soft corn snow. We saw about 2 dozen other people. We saw glades, cruisers, terrain of all sorts, and some really dramatic scenery. We even got to ski some fairly steep slopes with NO bumps whatsoever, which is a lot of fun because it's so rare. Steep, corn snow, and smooth...no bumps at all.

We saw everything but rain, which held off until we were back in Burlington. I ran the a/c in the car again for a bit on the way home.

After I unloaded the skis, I took the dogs out in the park in my shirt sleeves. The grass is greening up every day and the dirt path through the park is almost dry...no more mud.

One of the ski patrol guys said he thought they'd be open for another month.

I've got another two-for-one ticket - who wants to ski Jay?

Default What great memories and pix!

I'm an anomaly when it comes to skiing. I'm probably the only person who has a free ski pass (no limits) to Stowe Mountain Resort and never uses it. My husband, an advid skier, has worked there for years during ski season so we have a free family pass.

I moved here from NJ eight years ago and never learned to ski. Now, I feel like I'm too old too learn. My kids both ski. My 10 year old can ski just about any trail and my 8 year old is an intermediate skier. I'd love to ski with them, but I'm just too chicken to learn.

Maybe next winter. That's what I've been saying since we moved here.
