Oct. 31, 2010 North Troy, Jay, Westfield

This is where my dogs and I go for a walk every morning.

I posted a photo of these same trees just two weeks ago when they were full of color.

You gotta love free heat. I cut up a blown down birch in Jay yesterday. A little splitting and it's good to go.

I think there's one of these houses in every town.

Snow! Boy do those pictures make me wish I was in the NEK right now. It spit snow yesterday here but not much and nothing that stuck. I could see it on some mountaintops in the distance but nothing down lower...

I was up in Shrewsbury yesterday. Some interesting stuff up there in the Coolidge State Forest...there was a stone house too but my batteries ran low before I could get it...

If old ruins could talk, they'd surely have a good story to tell us. And yeah, that fireplace ...

Yeah, as a historian, I truly wish ruins could talk...

That chimney is impressive. I also liked that well. The water rises naturally and overflows out a round hole on the side. I believe it was built by the CCC in the 30's.

I've found all kinds of cellar holes, etc., in the woods. Some seemingly from the 18th century even judging from the construction.

I tracked a bear today for a few hours until I ran out of sign. They're around up here, wherever there's food sources. They're usually pretty wary of people (usually, it's that one rare one that isn't you need to be worried about...).
