I agree, it looks like a woodpecker. I watched a woodpecker do something similar to a tree in our wooded area.

WOW! . Looks like a Wood Pecker who couldn't find the right spot at first or thought the tree was hollow?

Send Patrick (huge Bird expert) this picture on Facebook. He might be able to tell you more.

Without question it's a woodpecker. I watched one do this in the wooded area in our backyard about two years ago. The bird did this in about 2-3 days time and we had more damage to the tree. We took the tree down so that it wouldn't fall towards our pool.

Here is another example of what I found on the web.

Had to stop and take some photos of this lovely sunrise (ironically) on Sunset Hill Road in Williston, complete with a barn going through a rebirth, last week. View is at approximately 0610 hours:

Amazing couple of days of weather lately.... Just passing by, and we saw a Bell Jet Ranger hover, wave to the people, then take off from Sugarbush airport.... very cool!

Have Any of you considered setting up a timelapse camera in an open field? They aren't expensive and very easy to operate. It's very cool to grab images every 5 minutes and see time go by when you put them together.

I have it facing my vegetable garden right now since mid May. You can do it for anything. I did it for the October snowstorm from my roof and Hurricane Sandy from the beach.

Let us know if any of you set one up, I'd love to see it!
