When will the Southern Gateway start construction?

I thought we had enough student housing already? That seems like an excellent spot for some offices. Have one side offices and the other 150 beds or so.

Is there still a housing crunch for students? I have a feeling Campus Village Shoppes is going to be turned into a mixed-use student housing complex like University Village across the street.

Oh. I think there is anther student housing project where the old Jerry Sub building is. The North Gate student housing project by Gilbane (8430 and 8510 Baltimore Avenue).

With on-campus housing getting tighter, as a few old residential buildings going offline/demolished over the next year or two, they'll definitely need more off campus housing (And graduate students have been fighting for more housing on or off campus)..so it's a welcome sight to see more plans for it!

A look at Cybrary's new office digs in College Park's Discovery District. https://www.americaninno.com/dc/offi...maryland-digs/

Article says their headcount will be 75 employees by year end, and that they have plans to have 200 employees by the middle of next year. Hopefully with this increase in people working in College Park, some people decide to move to the area, or shop there, eat at the restaurants. This is the good growth that we need.

In an email today from the president of UMD, Wallace Loh, to the UMD community, he stated that "Ground-breaking for the 'Southern Gateway' is planned for next year.." Also, The Hall at CP will open in December 2019.

I was hoping for a Fall groundbreaking for the Southern Gateway. The Hall at CP has been years in the making for such a small development. Nevertheless, progress.

Any word on the big hole in the ground next to the Laundrymat? I read that they needed a new DSP because they had to do a complete demolition of the property. But I haven't seen anything yet.

It would be a tragic comedy if it took the owners 10 years to develop that one parcel of land. lol

Haven't heard anything of that big empty lot beside the Laundrymat..makes no sense that they would preemptively demolish what was there before securing funds, finding a builder, etc.. It's been a vacant lot for what..a year+ now? CP is SO SLOW building things lol

Also, conflicting reports on Southern Gateway.. New CP Development Update says "Bozzuto aims to have construction begin before the end of the year.." Which is good news..

Couple of nuggets in that packet

Quote:
Demolition on the site has begun and Crunch Fitness has been confirmed as the first retail tenant. Bozzuto aims to have construction begin before the end of the year.

Wawa is proposing to construct a convenience store and gas station on approximately 1.47 acres at the intersection of IKEA Center Boulevard and Baltimore Avenue.
