Apartment development near College Park Metro set to begin construction in December https://dbknews.com/2019/04/25/colle...struction-new/

A Gilbane Development Company project that will bring 451 new apartments units near the College Park Metro Station is expected to start construction in December.

The development, located adjacent to the station at 7201 River Road, is expected to replace a parking lot currently at the site. It will offer a variety of floorplans — ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments — and approximately 12,000 square feet of retail space.

There's no burger place around that part of campus. Closer to the bars for late night feedings. It should do well. Habit burger is a bit too far for students without transportation.

Bobby’s Burger Palace is still the best burger place in the area...but it’s a bit further down the road too

I agree. But parking is horrendous at the Varsity. It usually lightens up during the summer though.

mbike is ending.

mBIKE ENDS THIS AUGUST, REPLACED BY NEW MOBILITY SERVICE
COLLEGE PARK, MD May 14, 2019 - The City of College Park, the University of Maryland and Town of University Park’s bike share program, mBike, will end this summer, with the last day of operations on August 31, 2019. With our three-year contract coming to an end, we were unable to come to terms on a replacement system with Zagster and have mutually agreed to part ways.

The mBike program grew steadily over the past three years with more than 4,000 unique users and 130,000 trips. The City of College Park, University of Maryland, and the Town of University Park intend to build on the success of mBike by introducing a new shared mobility system that provides pedal bikes, pedal-assist bikes and electric scooters. We hope to make details of this new system public very soon.

We apologize for any inconvenience during this transition and have made arrangements with Zagster for refunds to current members.

Questions about mBike refunds and existing mBike memberships may be directed to Zagster at support@zagster.com or (202) 999-3924.

Saw that coming. mBike wasn't College Park's first choice. A deal with mBike was struck because Capital Bikeshare wasn't available at the time. I believe there were some internal issues with Capital Bikeshare. Can't remember. They weren't ready to expand or couldn't or something to that matter.

I hope it's not those yellow or green bikes that people lay all over the place.

Well, this article says that it is Capital Bikeshare. I think they were getting rid of mBike as soon as the contract was up if Capital Bike share was available no matter what mBike offered.

Starting this fall, College Park will be a little more connected to Washington, D.C.

Capital Bikeshare, a popular Washington-area bikeshare program that moved into Prince George’s County last year, expects to add three stations in College Park this fall.

The red bikes will be found at The Hotel at the University of Maryland, the College Park Metro Station and near College Park Bicycles at the intersection of Route 1 and Calvert Road.

I actually liked mBike as they offered more riding time than Capital Bikeshare I think however long term I prefer a regional wide integrated bike share option, but just think instead of 30 mins they should now make trips an hour since the suburban locations are further out and there is more distance between bike docks.
