I am looking to retire in 6 years. I will be leaving Ca and am looking for a lower cost and nicer better run state then CA. I have been looking in Trulia at Tacoma area as well as Spokane. I am looking for low crime, good health care, not a racially diverse area. I am white, so what. Flame me if you want, at least I'm honest.

Then you don't look in Tacoma.

Look towards the Central, Southwest and Eastern WA, though they may not offer much in good health care as would Seattle.

An outsider wonders how about somewhere on the Olympic peninsula.

You shouldn't retire in WA.
You should go to Texas.
Or Oklahoma. Or Florida. Or New Jersey.
How about Utah? Maybe Wyoming. S. Dakota could work out.

If you don't like California. You won't like Washington. Promise.

Forget Tacoma, Spokane may be a better fit, but if you want something closer to the climate you are used to, and a lower cost of living look at the tri-cities area, especially Pasco. The area between there and Yakima is becoming more like the Napa Valley with wineries and vineyards popping up all over the place, and homes in Pasco are about half the price of the Seattle area, which has become very close to the CA prices.

Washington has many such areas, however if you are looking for low costs, you can't afford to live in any of them.

The man said he *didn't* want racial diversity, so you suggest places like Texas, Florida, and New Jersey?
Was that some sort of joke??

And to say he won't like Washington if he doesn't like California is nonsensical speculation on your part.

That you could even wonder speaks volumes ...

Where in this country can you go to escape racial diversity? I mean, there are greater and lesser degrees, but racial diversity has become the definition of the country. And even countries that once were pretty pure aren't anymore. I guess maybe certain rural towns are monoracial.
