Day 2 of the blankety blank snow. It's diminished - some - and now it's solid on top, plus today it wasn't raining or snowing, so the cat stayed out all day. But the snow is still there. Personally, I think it's a conspiracy.

I enjoyed some sun and calm winds today while out for a paddle. We could also see Mt. Hood which is always a great sight especially during winter.

We had a couple of hours of bright sun yesterday and another freeze last night, now the clouds are back. Today feels pretty ordinary for Feb. Overcast, ground still frozen from overnight and in the 40s. It's supposed to warm up next week.

Day 3 of the snow. By dog sled and snowmobile, I managed to transverse the 1/16 mile of my driveway and put out the garbage and get the mail which had not been collected for three days. Since it will be the build up of mail in my box that should alert anyone to the fact that something has happened to me, I guess I can assume that my body will lie in repose for at least three days. Hopefully I won't kick off when the cat is inside.

I'm noticing a intriguing collection of tracks in the snow. Birds, raccoons, cats, rabbits, and some big oblong ones that went around my neighbor's house. I was hoping for a bear but alas, it was just the electrician checking an outside light.

There is some ground now showing through the snow, although I still need sunglasses to avoid snow blindness. But in addition to snow, we now have rain. The cat comes in now and then to jump on the bed and shake herself dry. This is usually when I'm settled for a nap, and then she wants out again a few minutes later, usually when I'm settled for a nap. It's these times I ponder the fact that rhinoceros horn is so valuable but cat skins are not.

So the upshot is we have cold, still a lot of snow, an obnoxious cat, and all with the addition now of rain. My friend from Texas told me they have almost 70 degree weather there. I told him to zip it before I smacked him through the phone.

It sounds like temps are colder up north and then up in elevation. Southern WA lows haven't reached freezing this past week with 40s during the day for the most part. That said, today was a wintery mix of clouds, light rain and stronger winds which started with some sunnier weather in the AM. So, I took advantage of the nicer weather and went for a walk. I always looking for those windows of light when they come. Here are a few pics from today.

Yesterday I saw both Mt. Baker & Mt. Rainier in the same day, in February. Whaaaa? Today, nope.

Depending on how you slant your eyes and tilt your head, my yard is looking either like a tundra or an ocean with ice floes on it.

What a beautiful, sunny, winter day in Vancouver today. Temps reached the mid-50s and it felt warm. I actually got sunburned while paddling. The mountain was out along with lots of birds singing which made it feel even more like spring. You never know what this winter will bring. But we've have quite a variety, that's for sure.
