Interesting that Washington DC has had the same number of 90F days as Atlanta. Is this a normal occurrence? I ask this as Atlanta seems to me at least, to have this reputation for hot summer weather, yet it doesn't really seem any different to DC. Is the humidity worse in Atlanta?

Average summer maxes are about on par with each other. Summers are remarkably similar in much of the Eastern US south of the mason-dixon line. Even northwards towards NYC it's about as hot and steamy as further south.

Atlanta averages 37 days at or above 90 F and Washington DC averages 32.

Sadly, none this year. Helsinki had 1. This summer was just awful. Ok, August was ok.

Last year we had 11 30C days.

As always, I ask where these numbers are coming from. The variation in Atlanta is much higher than the DC area.

DC had a maximum number in 1980 of 67, and a minimum of 7 in 1905

Atlanta shows a maximum of 90 days in 1980, and the fewest of 2 days in 1967

How are they calculating averages?

Is there some source of these numbers?

Because this page doesn't match, nor does this one, and none of it matches the recent data.

Not looking to argue, I just want to know what source is there for these numbers?

Because I see Washington DC with either 27, 28, 32, or 36 days above 90, on average. Depending on the source.

For example,
Climatology of North Georgia (excluding the Mountains)
Temperature - The area experiences all four seasons. Summers typically consist of long spells of warm and humid weather. Average afternoon high temperatures are in the upper 80s to around 90. Readings of 90 or higher can be expected on 30 to 60 days.

Climatology of Central Georgia
TemperatureTemperature - The area experiences all four seasons. Summers typically consist of long spells of warm and humid weather. Average afternoon high temperatures are in the lower 90s. Readings of 90 or higher can be expected on 70 to 80 days.

Which one is Atlanta? (it's in climate Div 2, which makes it northern)
