Since the Statesboro station had a string of days with no reporting this summer, I'll go by what the Savannah airport saw.
April: None, although April 10th came close with a monthly high of 89 F.
May: 6/31 days, the start of our summer down here.
June: 19/30 days
July: 29/31 days. Both July 6th and July 31st had a high of 89 F, which is what kept the entire month from being 90 F+.
August: 18/31 days.
September is typically the last month we see 90 F+ temps. Yesterday missed the mark by 1 degree. Today may hit 90 F, although increased cloudcover from Erica's remnants may prevent that.
Total so far: 72 days.
Make that six days of 90°F temperatures in Pittsburgh this summer, which is still below average (10 days). The 4PM observation in Pittsburgh has the temperature at exactly 90°F. This is the first time Pittsburgh has reached 90°F in September since reaching 95°F on September 3, 2011. I wouldn't be surprised if Pittsburgh has another day or two of 90°F temperatures between now and Labor Day either. The first day of 90°F temperatures in Pittsburgh this summer was June 11, and the hottest temperature was 92°F on July 28.
Athens, GA has now had 68 days of 90°F temperatures this summer, including 31 days of 95°F temperatures, and three days of 100°F temperatures. The first day of 90°F temperatures this summer was May 11, and the hottest temperature was 100°F on three different days: June 22, August 4 and August 5.
in Raleigh I think we have had 49 (including today) which is not too much above average. we probably will pick up 3 to 4 more. and for Athens Georgia 68 days wow! from my understanding though the Atlanta area averages slightly less 90 degree days than Raleigh. but this past summer saw drier air over northern Georgia and upstate sc and south western nc including charlotte area which saw 69 90 degree days and charlotte area also averages a whole 8 less 90 degree days than Raleigh! interesting what a big diff humidity makes in suppressing hotter temps.
