Interesting that Washington DC has had the same number of 90F days as Atlanta. Is this a normal occurrence? I ask this as Atlanta seems to me at least, to have this reputation for hot summer weather, yet it doesn't really seem any different to DC. Is the humidity worse in Atlanta?

Average summer maxes are about on par with each other. Summers are remarkably similar in much of the Eastern US south of the mason-dixon line. Even northwards towards NYC it's about as hot and steamy as further south.
Atlanta averages 37 days at or above 90 F and Washington DC averages 32.
Those are the sources I used for my numbers. I am asking where the averages are being taken from. If you can get an average from the NOW data, please let me know how. Or really from anywhere on their pages, because clearly I do not know.
For example, Climatology of North Georgia (excluding the Mountains)
Temperature - The area experiences all four seasons. Summers typically consist of long spells of warm and humid weather. Average afternoon high temperatures are in the upper 80s to around 90. Readings of 90 or higher can be expected on 30 to 60 days.
Climatology of Central Georgia
TemperatureTemperature - The area experiences all four seasons. Summers typically consist of long spells of warm and humid weather. Average afternoon high temperatures are in the lower 90s. Readings of 90 or higher can be expected on 70 to 80 days.
Which one is Atlanta? (it's in climate Div 2, which makes it northern)
