Lmao, I guess that's what the news looks like in a country with low violent crime.

Btw, looks like a chance of storms in Helsinki and Tampere from what I saw?

Yeah, and it's summer, so all regular journalists are on vacation. Never forget, in the mid 90's there was a craze about a lion escaping from a Russian zoo, and was hunted down in Eastern Finland. There was never any lion in the first place. Pure fabrication.

Yeah yeah, but we had a case of brutal murder where a man in the suburbs was "crucified" on a floor. (Limbs bolted with a nail gun.) Probably the Estonian or Russian mafia, as they tend to do such things. Oh, but sorry, the Russian mafia DOESN'T OPERATE IN FINLAND, nothing to see here. At least that's the official truth. Though the police knows that the Russian mafia is essential to keep the status quo within organised crime.

Helsinki was to experience some beau thunderstorms, but the small cells died over the Gulf of Finland.

my local paper doesn't have much "exciting" news. Today's headline:

Marijuana dispensary’s permit bid falls short over Hadley mosque concerns

didn't there was a mosque in the area. Assuming marijuana gets legalized, the medical business only has a year or two left.

Marijuana dispensary

more drug-related news. Local opiate deaths...

Study: Fentanyl caused up to 2/3 of opioid-related deaths in Mass.

how exciting... Vacation Bible school in Easthampton brings religion alive

Huh. No Russians. Thought they would have made it by now. Maybe they're good at not getting caught.

There seems to have been an uptick in gang activity in the UK over the past year. More shootings than normal in major cities. Some of it is linked to gangs from places like Romania, though mostly seems to be British-based. Manchester was once known as 'Gunchester' and had about 7 shootings within a month last year. Gun crime was high in the late 90s/early 00s but fell quickly after that.

Things seemed to have quietened down on that front though. Probably just a random crime spike.

As for our local news - nothing too exciting today. News segment on the new shopping development:

I always heard of Nottingham being called 'Shottingham'

Of course, gun crime is relatively low everywhere in the UK, but that was always the city that I thought had the stereotype for gun crime in the UK

Yeah Nottingham was the UK gun crime capital for a long time. Very infamous for gun crime at one point. Not these days though. It was all gang related, but the ringleaders were eventually arrested and then it pretty much just faded away.

There was a shooting in Leeds last month: http://www.itv.com/news/calendar/201...eeds-shooting/

We used to call Little Havana "Little Vietnam" here. Used to call Miami Gardens "Murder Gardens" as well (thank god I don't live there anymore) also called Opa-Locka "Glocka Locka" lol.
