No activity in this thread for a week? People must be living really great lives lately. Good for them.

But on a serious note, I've been noticing, especially lately, that the quality of posts on here has been dropping over the last two years or so since I started lurking. As much as I hated Owen and MeteoMan, they at least added substance to the forum. The Unhappy Thread at least moved when they were around, and some of the best posts on this board have come from the two old Unhappy Threads.

I think it got worse with the beginning of the General Chat Thread, and the decline in quality caused by that thread just spread throughout the board. Now every thread turns into a semi-civil discussion about palm trees or something. It used to be that people would get a little heated, and the topics would get beaten to death (cold vs. warm, anyone?) but it would actually be interesting enough to keep reading. I'm not a sadist, but a good argument can be fun to watch.

For example, in my thread "2016 Edition - Post your ideal climatic averages", maybe 20% of the posts are indeed ideal climates. There's too much commentary in that thread and yes, palm tree talk. In the first thread from 2008, there was Sab's Island, there were entertaining, lighthearted comments about each other's climates, and all around the thread had a longer lifespan than any thread now.

Now the board is full of new "regulars" who are only here for climate battles, and there's too much discussion about palm trees and of stuff like football scores and other stuff that doesn't pertain to weather.

Sorry; I just had to rant.

^^ Great post and I totally agree!

I don't post as much anymore because I'm abroad until Christmas but this place has got boring, Owen at least lightened things up!

The quality of discussion has dropped significantly

I'm also sick of people talking about palm trees (or exotic plants) and if certain climates can grow them or not. These threads bother the hell out of me. I mean, this is a weather forum, so why not just primarily focus on a climate than vegetation?

Seriously, they should make a botany forum for these people or something. I really don't care if a city like Edinburgh can grow palm trees or not. Doesn't make its climate more likable (or unlikable for that matter).

Funny, this forum is filled with snow lowers (or four seasonal fans) and yet the majority of them somehow pine (if you pardon the pun) for palm trees and tropical plants. It's amazing.

If I see one more discussion about palm trees I will throw coconuts through the internet at the participants.

And music, and food, and anything else one would suspect might lead to some discussion on a "General Chat" thread. Then again, perhaps taking interest in something besides politics makes me an outcast.

There's often good discussions on the chat thread. Something like "I'm unhappy because it's raining" is just boring.

I'm unhappy because my credit card was cancelled without any ****ing notice, so now I'm out of money until at least next week, if not more. Worst part is that the day they cancelled was the day that I spent all my cash savings. I went to withdraw more money the next day and it got denied. Does it hurt to send a message whenever they plan on cancelling a card??

It's a frustrating feeling, not even being able to have access to your own money

A line of credit is not your own money.
