Why do some American roads have those curved dotted markings? I remember seeing this in Virginia, and I thought it bizarre.

They help guide you turn, I typically only see them on roads with multiple turning lanes.

We have them at quite a lot of intersections here. Drivers are stupid and need guidance.

Winter it's a bad, I've had to beep many times this winter at drivers who can't stay in their lane when turning.

America is the only foreign country that I've seen those sort of markings.

Those lines are in every multi-lane intersection in Australia. In Vic and SA they are solid lines. I think in Queensland they are segmented.

I watched a road rage video once where a car turning left was NOT hit by another car.
