Why does the hospital have the right to prevent the parents from taking their baby? This sounds rather crazy.

That baby has zero chance of survival, even with treatment.

Maybe, but why can't the hospital let the baby go and let the parents try? The baby belongs to the parents not the hospital.

Exactly, It's unbelievable to me that they somehow have the power to prevent the parents from seeking treatment for THEIR child, regardless of whether or not they think that treatment will be effective. Very depressing story

I suspect this law came into being after there was problems with Jehovah's Witnesses and other kooks preventing their children from receiving urgent medical care.

My dad told me a story about a kid in his school who had a curable condition, but died because his parents wouldn't allow him to receive medical treatment.
