Wow! What a year. Haven't checked out Bernies thoughts, probably wont get around to it. Thanks for the update.

Current temps at 5000' and radar with metars.

Kinda funny looking at this in March. You wanna say "Where's the cold air?!"

It's above freezing at 5k over Southern NJ and so its raining there.
It's above freezing at 5k throughout Ohio and Western PA so it's not like there's a ton of arctic air around rushing in.
Plus it's March.
Plus coastal storm pushing Ocean air in.
Sun angle higher in the sky.

It's -5°C over NYC and the cold is stubborn to leave north of Philly. Interesting setup when you look at it.

Move to FL no more salt or wet roads.

Is this a dream? I don't remember seeing anything like this in March. Hard to believe

I am frustrated because the storm looks to be a miss where I am. I canceled something because of a forecast that had 8-12 inches of snow today at 12 PM but by 6 PM it was 3-6. Now I am deciding what time to go to work and where to park and I have NO idea if they will change the forecast AGAIN.

I'm dreading this as I have a killer commute to get to work. But I expect all schools and possibly the Federal Government to close which should make the traffic light. I wish I didn't have to deal with it. Today is the first day of Spring! WTF?

It is the southern bias of the US with population moving to the Sunbelt over time, and many people don't associate March as being a "wintry" month. Spring doesn't arrive in the interior Northeast until May most of the time with frost and freeze potential common until the end of the month.

Where I work is about 30 miles south of Frederick. It was miserable all day but snow was light. We got sleet, and it was the entire day. Thank goodness the temperatures stayed above freezing. Looking out the window at work today was depressing...

Closeup.

That would be a bust for far northern NJ as well.

NWS is currently calling for 9-13 inches of snow in my neck of the woods, although localized higher amounts are possible. I'm thinking while the whole state will get hit, places further south and east will be in the jackpot zones.

Quote:
...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM WEDNESDAY TO
2 AM EDT THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 9 to
13 inches, with localized amounts up to 16 inches, are
expected.

* WHERE...Sussex, Warren and Morris counties.

* WHEN...From 6 AM Wednesday to 2 AM EDT Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will be very difficult to
impossible, including during the evening commute on Wednesday.
Be prepared for 1 to 3 inch per hour snowfall accumulation
Wednesday afternoon and evening with visibility reduced to
less than half a mile. Highest accumulations will be in the
hilly areas. In the meantime, any snow that falls this evening
should be light and may quit for several hours before the snow
develops in earnest early Wednesday morning. Blowing and
drifting snow is possible on Thursday.

It's 37 right now and raining. I just got put under a WWA for tomorrow morning for 1-2" of snow. But that is only the northern half of the county; I'm supposed to get <1". I'll honestly be surprised if I see anything. At the same time, I wasn't expecting the WWA either. (I'm in Durham atm).

Not much snow here (between Washington, DC and Baltimore) so far and the forecast has been downgraded to 3-6 inches.
Heavy snow reported to come in about 3 hours and continuing for 6 hours, tapering off at about 3 PM.

Federal Government is closed. That is a surprise to me. especially looking out my window. Apparently a lot of ice out there and there are a lot of accidents. Current temperature is 28 degrees.

Just reported "this is the calm before the storm."
