Perfect. Needs to stay that way so the Northern Hemisphere can have less extremes in weather events. The Southern Hemisphere's mildness, in part, comes from how zonal the jet stream stays over there.

Gulf Stream keeps most of western Europe mild, US only has milder climates on the immediate West Coast. I prefer a boreal Nordic type of climate, so the Lake Superior Snowbelt region is my favorite climate in the lower 48.
Haven’t had a damn flake of snow in the Indianapolis areaIndianapolis is however set to experience near record to record cold weather for this time of year for at least the next week.

Lucky you. I can't break away from mid 80's to near 90.
What PerspectaWX says doesn't seem to match with the graph. The graph only shows +/- 1 standard deviation, suggesting that it is only around the top 15% for snowfall. Now, if the data only goes back to 1998, maybe it is a record, but either way, it doesn't seem as impressive as it could be.
I just read that. Looks promising but, still long way out
It would only look promising to me IMHO if that exceptional cold weather is associated with snow and ice storms, something I just don’t see happening this winter in the Midwest

I meant "extreme" as in persistence of pattern, not necessarily temperatures.
