It’s not unusual for Atlanta to be colder in winter. Atlanta’s average January mean is lower than London’s.

Actually it is not. Atlanta is 43.3F for Jan, London is 41.4F. UK is just exceptionally warm right now and it is not average but way above for them. And below for Atlanta. That is what is going on.

Not that much warmer, only by 1 or 2°C and with rain instead of sun.

Tokyo, Japan is also at a mean of 41.4F in January. Never thought of the two cities being the same like that in January, but it is what it is lol.

Exceptionally warm? High today was 11.9°C so nothing exceptional.
