Winter lovers in New England would probably like that pattern, though. Back door cold fronts to the rescue!

Meanwhile a Kona low is bringing rain and record low temperatures to Honolulu.

Snow on the way to Vancouver Island tonight and tomorrow. Up to 40 cm at altitude up island. Probably not much here in Victoria.

One thing I just noticed is that this winter could be a big contrast to last winter for Texas, lol. If the present weather patterns hold up and my guess about Dallas/Austin/San Antonio seeing a frost-free winter turns out correct, that'll be the ultimate 'apology' for Winter Storm Uri.

Not a reasonable expectation. For most places, that would mean breaking the record for warmest seasonal extreme min temp by around 5-10 F.

We had thunder and lightning last night around midnight! Pretty unusual for December around here. The storms dumped a bit over a half inch of rain yesterday and last night as well. And the passage of the cold front has taken us from 60F at midnight last night to 33F as of 8AM this morning. Temps will stay in the low 30s today and with clear skies tonight we'll fall into the teens. Highs tomorrow only climb to the upper 20s. A big warmup by the end of the week, though, as we'll be back close to 60 by Friday.

Best chance for snow is tomorrow night and that's mainly south of Indianapolis. Even there, at best it's about a dusting to a half inch of accumulation. Rain returns later this week but not seeing much snow at the moment.

It was 60F here at midnight in Floyd County, IN, absurdly warm. Another insanely mild December overall, will likely be another backloaded winter if the pattern in the Pacific ever quiets down, and we can get some high latitude blocking in the North Atlantic.
