Default I heard it's an area where sometimes homeless people congregate.

And those poor people oftentimes are picked on and are victims.

Hey for the first time in my five years of living in Montreal, we had a murder two blocks down my street yesterday.
No place is safe anymore.

So now we have one less, drug dealing scum bag in the world.

I think you may have more crime then you hear reported. In the US they love to report crime, like they say in the news business, "If it bleeds it leads". I think a lot of foreign countries don't do that, in fact may even suppress it. I know in Russia they had serial killers running around one guy killed like 300 people and it was never reported as news until recently.
I am afraid I am not buying Montreal has had only one murder in five years.

One quick google found you to be quite incorrect
Montreal will remain a 'safe international city': police

Here is another quote from a Canadian paper

"Montreal's murder-capital demotion For over a decade, Montreal has been Canada's murder capital, a dubious honour now held for the first time by Toronto, recording 90 homicides in 2002. Vancouver comes second, with 69, including the 15 murdered prostitutes attributed to Robert Pickton, while Montreal came in third, with 66. According to StatsCan, the city's murder rate, at 1.9 homicides per 100,000 people, is at its lowest in 20 years. This is in stark contrast to 1991, Montreal's bloodiest year in recent history, when there were 105 homicides and 3.3 murders per 100,000. Quebec is also the province with the lowest crime rate in the country"

If we would all just stop reporting crime, then crime would virtually go away. And the World would be a virtual paridise.

Or at least we would think it was.
