I ate at Amy's a few weeks ago. They aren't bad and are cheap for what you get.
Mi Degollado in Charles Town and Viva Mexico in Inwood swim circles around them in quality of food, but I'd still go back to Amy's
Does anyone know what kind of place the original business in that building was? Amy's has pretty nice decor except for the hideous original (glow in the dark) carpet. I'm thinking bar or even more likely a strip club...
I believe that building was originally built for Amy's Los Amigos many many years ago, prob 15-20 years ago. From what I remember it was the whole building and the entrance was where Subway currently is. After that, the building had many other tenants that didn't last too long. I'm 26, so I was really young at the time, so others may chime in that may remember differently.
Another one bites the dust.amys is gone and the sign says "chefs best family diner" coming soon.
How long will the new place last? Unless the rent there is incredibly cheap, I can't imagine the utility in opening a business at a location where several similar businesses have failed.

I guess these restaurants have been planning for a customer base from the IRS, VA hospital, Coast Guard, ATF and the two industrial sites there; as well as the high traffic count on 9. But obviously it hasn't been enough. (Food business ain't easy, either.) I would think that once the new RT9 opens the traffic count will drop dramatically. I currently pass that place at least 3 times a week often more, when the new two lane is open I'll go by a lot less.
King's Pizza and subs new location digs are pretty nice [esp when compared to their previous spot near the Kearneysville P.O.] and food is good too. Wonder if they would consider a Tex-Mex fare in addition to their menu 'cuz I loved my once every two week stop at Cal Tort.

Oh, uh, sorry, I meant...
Chef's Avenue family diner is now open for business, where the Los Amigos and Georgia Boy used to be. And I gotta tell ya, I had a pretty darn tasty steak'n'cheese sub there today for lunch, so maybe we've finally got ourselves a winner!

I went there the other day for lunch and was going to try the Steak and Cheese sub you mentioned, but I didn't see it on the menu. The only Steak and Cheese I seen was a sandwich; which is what I got. I wasn't too impressed, it was just two slices of bread toasted with steak in the middle. It tasted OK and came with fries, but for 7 bucks I could have got a sub at King's that was much better.
