I sure hope this comes to fruition; western NC has lost too much industry already to the upstate of SC.

I have a question .... at what point does a micro-brewer cease being micro?

The Mills River Planning Board approved a commercial subdivision request for Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Planning board approval is required when a large piece of property will be divided for commercial purposes. Sierra Nevada will be the first occupant in the town's industrial park and is expected to break ground on the project in May.

I'm happy about it, it's kinda funny to have a brewery named "Sierra Nevada" in the Appalachian mountains.

I wonder how many of the jobs created will be filled with local residents.

I wondered too. A cursory perusal said SN was the 6th largest brewery co. in the US, with ~800,000 bbls mfg'd in 2010.

In the arbitrary rankings of 'craft brewers', (as opposed to micro-brewers, which they probably are not with that volume), they are 2nd behind Boston Beer.

NEway, hope they hire some local people for more than just fork lift driving, etc.

No big companies set up business in the area and everyone gripes.

One does, then everyone gripes about how that brand themselves and automatically assume they will not hire locally and everyone gripes.

Even were they to not hire a single local person, it would bring a lot of cash flow to the area, housing, retail, taxes, etc.
