It's a very nice house. I can see why it went under contract so quickly.

Do all the houses in the area have basements or crawlspaces? Does anyone ever just build on a slab?

The majority of houses here have crawlspaces or basements. Slab foundations require relatively flat land.

Yes, there are homes built on a slab. I purchased one in part because I did not want to deal with a crawl space or basement.

Like Lizap said, it really has more to do with the lot than anything else. You can find flat lots, especially if you're willing to go up to an hour outside of the Asheville area.

Bryophyta...just my 2 cents but you REALLY need to get up with a realtor in the area and come visit and get YOUR boots on the ground to check out places that might interest you .
Opinions are like, ( as is well said ) A$$holes....everybody has one.
Good luck in your searches but the only way to know for sure is to go check the places out that might interest you in person...do your due diligence then make your decision.
I really do wish you the best in your search and anyone here can give you their opinion but... you are the best judge of what is best for you, in the long run.

I've seen worse for sure. Nothing crazy bad jumps out at me about the location but it is 30 +/- minutes out of the business district which can be a good or bad thing depending on your wants.

I would want to know what's going on here

^ My guess is that is a stop gap 'barrier' to slow/reduce rain dripping down from upper deck onto pavers at lower level sliding door area...

That house design is not 'bad', not great, but who knows what the OP really wants?

My other thought was that angled roof and sloping 'cathedral ceiling' may or may not have some serious 'modern'/high R insulation in the attic/framer space.

+ Another on the OP doing some trips; looking at pics is like a dating site, I suspect.

Fwiw, V and I made dozens of trips down from metro NYC to western NC, and even bought a several acre homesite, before we realized that site was a no go, found our Mtn home site and built, circa '99 through 2001.

An existing house is 'easier' and less pricey these days, but OP has to make some trips. I get that they put up pics/links of their interest, but it is like asking should I buy this car; none of us know, other than our opins/comments.

GL, mD
