Another fan of personal-leave/flex time. What one does on one's own time is NOT the company's business.

Where I used to work I would say at least 30% of the people in the dept. I worked in somehow or another managed to get on FMLA and milked it for all it was worth. Now I don't have a problem with someone that needs to be on the program but the way it is set up all the employee has to do is call in and no questions asked. If they wanted to leave work early all they had to do was report to scheduling they were leaving and because they were on FMLA they could go again no questions. Some of them would leave every single payday. Come in work half a day then claim they had a headache or whatever and head for the casinos.

It nipped it in the bud.
LOL good one!

Once upon a time, my boss came to my house when I was home sick. I came to the door in my bathrobe and jammies.

I just make sure I am where I am supposed to be..... At home. Not out and about unless I can prove I am going to the doc or pharmacy. They can check all they want.

Thoughts on this?
I totally agree with you. Unless the boss suspects an employee of abusing sick time, there really isn't any reason why they should spy on employees for calling in sick. That's just a plain waste of company resources.

My company isn't terrible so we get 3 weeks PTO instead of 2 weeks PTO and 1 week sick time. They could not care less how I spend my time off. This is what is referred to as "non-sociopathic behavior". "Use it or lose it" sick time is a garbage idea.

I find this petty and overly expensive if the person is going to be out for a week.

Now for something longer, then maybe I could see it, but I feel it should be relegated to disability claims not regular sick time.

My thoughts exactly. How on earth is this cost efficient unless the employees in question make big bucks? Like 6 figures.

If that were the case I'd think they would be in a position that would be immune from a lot of the petty HR scrutiny. I know that where I work some of the higher ups pretty much do as they please. They wouyld be the only ones worth sending a private eye after. The rest of us don't make enough to justify the cost.

If this happened to me I'd find another job. I would be enraged if my boss did this.

But in my field, I'm shocked the way people (usually women w/ kids, sorry), won't hesitate to use sick leave almost every week... and often it's to avoid some high pressure task!
Really! Women with kids, forbid forbid we are staying home with sick children. Or maybe as you put it, we can't handle hard tasks! Seriously? Get over yourself. I tell you what I see. I see all kinds of people calling out sick, not just women with children.
