It's kind of ridiculous, but I understand that a company has concerns over its employees possibly abusing long term leave benefits. Now if we're talking about them spying on you for using a paid sick day from time to time, that would be crossing the line.

Sounds like a bunch of Natzis. Spying on someone to see what that person is doing on their sick day? I would have some fun with that though....kind of like drag the private eye around town to "interesting" places.

Not a bad thing...I had a coworker who would milk this ad nauseum. She would claim all sorts of health reasons why she couldn't come in....but didnt have too many issues going to the casino 3 or more nights a week. Lazy B ruined it for everyone.

I love the sound of this, they wouldn't have to verify anyone unless they see it is excessive.

But in my field, I'm shocked the way people (usually women w/ kids, sorry), won't hesitate to use sick leave almost every week... and often it's to avoid some high pressure task!

I can see them doing it for people out on longer term disabiltiy. I don't think that is anything new. I remember watching some show a few years back where they were catching people who were claiming severe injuries and they would catch them doing all sorts of things.

I can't possibly see how this makes sense for the 1 or 2 sick days someone might be faking.

It's been done for people on long term disability, forever. But sick days, I've never heard of that. If I worked for a company, and I'm not the sick day faker type, but if I caught them doing that to me I would have to quit. Seriously, I would wonder what else are they are prying into. It's just too oppressive for me. I can't trust or work with people like that. I can't deal with control freaks. They have clear OCD disorder.

If the sick days are provided with pay by t he employer and is to be used for sickness, why can't they verify that you are sick? It's not your days or your wages, its company money. Just like a company vehicle used for work purposes only, why shouldn't they track your movements to see if your visiting your girlfriend or moving friends stuff in company vehicle.

You don't want them watching what you do when using company paid sick days, use YOUR vacation days or take the day off WITHOUT pay!

I used to have a boss who would call you at home if you called in sick. I was in a salaried position and the first one where had my own office.

I couldn't believe it, he called me twice in one day( and I was sick), the second time I said "you just caught me in time, I'm on my way to the movies"....LOL...then I told him "you woke me up"(he did), that I was turning the ringer off, please don't call me again unless the building is on fire.

It nipped it in the bud.
