In the OP's dream world, everyone makes $20,000 and should be content and grateful for what they have. Never mind the nature of the work, the demand or responsibility of the work, the number of people who can do the same work, or the quality of the work.

The OP would fit perfectly in the former Soviet Union.

There's absolutely no equality when a trauma surgeon makes the same money as a garbageman or an office staffer. But in many socialist countries, that is indeed the case.

You are a real piece of work "Bro"

Any other part of the story you care to make up?
What's the matter? Feeling a bit dumb now that you realize you were wrong in your assumption of what I said in the OP??? Poor guy. So do you expect everyone to give you every detail (company name, where they work, ect ect)???? So me saying "big company" isn't enough for you? Ok how about you tell me then WHERE you work, WHAT company, and WHICH state it's in.... or are you going to just say a "#### Company"? Because God forbid you do otherwise I will think you're making it up LMAO.... your a funny guy!

Ben - let me ask this one more time since apparently my last question wasn't good enough for you.

Suppose you walk into work today and your boss tells you you are going to make $15/hr, but you have to do the exact same amount of work. You still make $30,000/yr (which is better than 34% of American households, so far from poverty, especially since you are a single guy). Would you complain about the pay decrease? Would you be upset about it at all?

Would I be upset? Yes because who isn't about a pay DECREASE??? The guys I had talked to did NOT get a pay DECREASE! Now if I were to be making 150K and because of cut backs my boss told me "Oh we are going to be forced to cut your salary to 140K" would I be mad then? HECK NO!!! That's still more than enough to have a good lifestyle. Yes everyone strives for a good life and i'm not saying you should STAY in place forever and just be happy... i'm saying people who are furtunate enough to make really good money should be thankful! For example look at some of these snob athletes who make 10-30 MILLION a year! That's more than even doctors make! Many of them (I KNOW BECAUSE I'VE SEEN IT FIRST HAND) are so stuck up and rude that they won't even acknowledge children who are fans. I'm saying have appreciation if you make good money and make the best of your life. This was never meant to be a thread about hating people who make good money (because I hope to one day as well) it's about whiny little man-girls! The group I was listening in on were NOT being mistreated or having their salaries cut! They were just mad because "they hadn't gotten a raise" in two years! LMAO.... You know how many companies have frozen their raise increases? Some people are sad and pathetic.

What state are you in? What is it's average income level? Poverty level? Unemployment rate?

Please answer, oh great inquisitor.

This post is divulging into a pathetic waste of time with somone who is now bringing million dollar athletes into the debate.

It was a good fake story you made up to whine and complain about people who do and will always make more than you.

But 20K a year is basically poverty level... 70-100K plus is not! What's to complain about if your making DOUBLE the average American salary? I would be so grateful to make that when I know that there are millions who ARE only making 10.00 an hour and have poverty level lives. Your question is an epic fail sir!
Exactly. Someone making $10/hour has the right to complain. $10/hour is poverty. 70k-100k is not.

On a side note, one of my classmates said she wants to make 70k-100k at her first real job and I was thinking "keep dreaming"

70k-100k is a lot of money, especially for a young person. It's not likely for a young person to make that type of money at their first real job.

My major tops out at 71k on average. The average starting pay for my major is 39k.

I await the day when BenMoss85 and others like him get a little older, a little wiser, a little family, and a little mortgage. Let's see if he isn't then complaining all the day long on how hard it is to keep up a decent lifestyle and send his kids to a decent school what with taxes being so high and all.
We've already been over this, but kids are a choice. A mortgage is a choice too.

No one has to do either.

And there are areas of the country where you can live comfortably on 30k. In that case, there's no need for someone to complain about making 30k.

In expensive areas, 100k might not make you rich, but it's no reason to complain.

It's a funny lesson I learned from spending time in Russia.

When everyone gets paid the same no matter what, very few people actually do any work.

Or another good point. When people know that there's nothing else to be gained, they stop striving to do better. Where's the incentive? Our society, businesses, etc., became better as a result of people trying to get further and further ahead. Right now, I know that my job is dead end. I no longer feel committed to my employer. Sure, I do what I need to do to retain my job. But at this point, I've given up on trying to make a name for myself here. It's just not going to happen. I'm looking for something else, to make more money, and to further my skills/experience.

70K...Are you kidding me?

So I made after taxes about 5200 a month....My apt in NYC was 1800 a month....Probably the cheapest one bedroom in the whole city.....then my school loans 650 a month....then all the other nonsense that is required to live brings me to barely scraping by....

Anyone who thinks 70k in NYC is alot is simply not doing the math....I have next to no savings
