Job #1 - Already been been working (substitute teaching) at for this employer for 10 yrs, so not a permanent employee, but I've gotten steady work. It's a 30 min or less drive away. In the meantime, I'm waiting for them to interview/hire for this permanent job, pay is about $25-27/hr plus benefits & it's full-time. I'm much more familiar w/ this workplace.
Job #2 - Other place already hired me right away to be a substitute also for $217/day + mileage from 8/24 - Oct ONLY while another employee's on maternity leave. There's a good chance I could get a permanent better paying job out of it than job #1 of about $38K/yr, but I don't know when that job will come up exactly. It's smaller than the above employer & the drive is only slightly longer, so worries there. I don't know squat about this employer.
It doesn't matter to me about staying loyal w/ a certain employer, I'll try a new employer if I can get to my ultimate career goal quicker, which #2 is looking like it will.
I would stay with job no. 1 since you appear to have a good history with them. Job no. 2 apparently is dependent on the person on maternity leave not coming back. I would not plan on that.
Since you are a regular substitute with #1 could you just tell them you will be inactive thru October, And just tell them you will be active again in October?
#2 is not a "job". It's a temporary assignment situation.
hth
Yes, it's only till Oct, HOWEVER, the chances of getting a better paying w/ job them, which is the ultimate career I'm working towards is higher & is coming along a lot quicker than w/ #1.

Good point. Sometimes better money at a faster pace isn't always the best way to go. It's good to try to know as far ahead as possible down the road where I'll be at that point.

I've thought about that. I could maybe bring it up & see what they say. There's no harm in asking.
Believe it or not, I've never applied for anything permanent w/ them, EXCEPT for NOW. In the past once, I was offered to interview for something I've been doing for a few months by 1 principal, but I declined it & no, that didn't blackball against me not getting anything else.
Well, my question is, why did you not apply for a perm job back in March or April, when teacher contracts were coming out? Why wait until almost the week school starts? In this case, if you have a relationship with a principal at Job 1, you should be signing a contract, as they already know if they need someone this late in the game. If they are not giving you a contract by next week, that is a problem.
Don't be greedy. Stick with Job #1. The permanent position sounds good, and if you don't get it, you can still search for a permanent "#2" after.
