Austria and Switzerland are really small countries (sorry for stating the obvious). The fact that they were mentioned in the top 2 (with Switzerland mentioned again at 8), I would say that they should be mentioned in the same breath as Germany, Australia, and Canada. I would be happy in any of these cities. I will visit Frankfurt in Feb (I love Germany) but have recently visited Chicago and San Fran. both of those cities were wonderful. My only gripes were: Chicago gets stupid cold in winter and in San Fran you couldn't walk 10 feet without being harassed by a homeless person begging for money (at least in the touristy areas). San Fran was my fav so far.
São Paulo, again, is in the middle of the list, in the 116th position...
But there is ne thing which I don't understand: why some very little relevant cities such as Pointe à Pitre, in Guadaloupe, are in this list? It's a nonsense to compare it with large and global cities such as New York, Paris or Shanghai...
I thought the Scandinavian countries would win this title. Although I do see Copenhagen on the list. As well as Australias cities. Plus some of Canada's. I do see them on the list. Germany I have lived in and would agree its quality of life is fairly high. In several of its cities. So Germany is deserving of this list. I've also lived in Ireland but its not on this list. Its quality of life was very good at one time, but some problems there. So no wonder Dublin or Cork is not on the list.
Someone mentioned San Francisco. Its sad but very understandable many people associate that city with natural beauty, and huge homeless population. America your faltering by the day. Its a shame so many Americans are oblivious to that. Since we won't make any list. Other than the worlds fools for letting ourself fall apart as we have.
