I'm 25% Gypsy. Had one grandparent who was 100%. I don't look it, so I doubt
that I would be automatically pegged as a Gypsy. Since I'm only 25%, why do I
identify with being Romani? Well, I've always been a wanderer and a traveler...
ever since age 2, if nobody was watching me, I would wander off. These days I'm
constantly traveling, as a musical performer no less. That's being a modern-day
Gypsy if ever anything was. The only difference is that I commit no crimes.
Apparently Gypsies used to be quite adept at swindling and stealing. I couldn't
swindle an Eskimo out of an ice cube.
Many still are. We've had many incidents of human trafficking, organized shoplifting rings and roofing and paving scams.
Ask anyone in the UK how they feel about gypsies. I have friends there who have to take everything from bicycles to patio furniture indoors when a gypsy camp set up shop nearby. If it`s metal, it disappears.
It all goes back to the Tale of the Fourth Nail, and their belief that God gave them permission to steal. It's their divine right. (As long as it's not from another gypsy)
That would go against the inscription that has been on the Statue of Liberty for decades.
Personally, I think that America today is as good as it's ever been in spite of its problems. It's still not as interesting as Europe, but hey at least we're working on getting there.
the usa has a much brighter few decades ahead of it than europe , thats for sure
But will he be allowed into the country?
After some "unpleasantness", Canada slammed the doors shut to Gypsies.
Depends. In the end he is just a US citizen. He would probably have to apply for a visa/permanent residence in most countries. If he meets the requirements I'm sure that no country on earth wouldn't allow him in because one of his grandparents was Romani.

Yes, many countries are desperately short of wandering minstrels.
This isn't the America that the Pilgrims set out to establish in the early 1600's. This isn't the America that the colonists fought for in the late 1700's. The Founding Fathers would be rolling around in their graves so much that there'd be endless earthquakes. We want to find a different and more pleasant way of living, which is not as soul-destroying and anger-inducing.
Lol ? Sure. Killing natives and stealing their lands with a lot of slaves to do the hard work for you.. What a dream. And, back in the time, the founding fathers were the 1% you are complaining about.
I could understand your rant, but first you should read America's history again. And you would certainly see that the US had never been more free and equal than in the last decades. Sure nothing is perfect, and the grass always looks greener elsewhere, but the situation in your country isn't that bad. You have new firms raising every year, increasing quickly in value to billions of dollars, owned by former unknown people. This can't be said about any other developed country.
About your wonderland, I imagine Switzerland and Canada could be the closest contenders. But there, you would find things to complain about too in no time.
Moving to an other country is a great thing, but if your goal is just to avoid your home country, you may never find peace with yourself.
Again, it's ironic that you're looking for a country with strict immigration controls.
Most countries won't let you in because "you're a genius, speak English well, don't smoke or do drugs". You may be "college-educated in physics, math and computer science", but are you a physicist, mathematician or computer programmer? Just studying it in school many years ago isn't good enough.
If they're desperately in need of teachers, tutors or entertainers, then you stand a chance.
Otherwise, not so much.
Agree. OP, dude, you've gotta get serious. You don't seem to be familiar with the concept that most countries, especially European and other developed countries, have strict requirements people who want a work visa have to meet. You didn't give us any info on your qualifications in your OP, or show any sign that you have a handle on that particular reality. Frankly, you're coming across like just another disaffected American wanting to find their personal Shangri-La somewhere overseas (or across the border in Canada, at least).
Then, there's this other reality you seem out of touch with.

No such place exists. Why? Because people who use their brains and think critically will find something wrong with their government. Most places have democracy, and that means there's a system of political parties for electing leaders. That means that the people belonging to the parties who are on the outs during any given administration won't be happy with the government. See how that works? Even in places like Sweden, where everyone generally agrees with the quasi-socialist system that's set up, people complain about the government. Most Bhutanese liked their King, but he stepped down a few years ago and decided there should be democracy, a popular vote. What did that achieve? It only split the citizenry between different parties. And Bhutan strictly controls the number of tourists coming in, never mind foreign "experts". But it does calculate its economic progress by a Gross National Happiness quotient, rather than GNP/GDP, so maybe you should try there.
IDK, man. Brunei, maybe? A benign dictatorship? Brazil's been doing pretty well lately, and the last President was popular. You shouldn't have any trouble picking up Portuguese.
You should do your own research. You know what you're looking for, and what kind of living conditions you can tolerate, and how important various factors are to you, relatively. I think your research project would be very eye-opening and educational. Good luck. Write if you find work.
