This website provides some statistics: in 2017 15.507 people got 2nd amendmented in the US which is higher than the years before. Gun related deaths and injuries appear to be on the increase.
In 2017, New York City had its lowest number of homicides ever recorded. It was lower than records going back even to the 1950s. Although Chicago's homicide rate is still very high, it fell 16% in 2017 compared to 2016.
So what do you think, are USA, UK, Germany, France and Australia the best countries to live right now?

So, it's all relative.
If NYC wants to get its homicide rate to first world standard it has to tone it down by like 300%. Chicago probably 1500%.
Why is the US on the list? Mass shootings, profound ignorance among the masses, unsustainable cities/suburbs, incredibly high health care costs with mediocre service, poor economic mobility, militarized police forces, massive income inequality and on and on. And no it's not just because of Trump (although he's helping to accelerate the decline). Born and raised here, love this country... but we're not #1 in everything. Unless you mean #1 for most incarcerated.
A homicide rate of 3.35 by Western European standards is a bit high, but nothing extraordinary. Malmo, Marseille, Liege, and some towns in Southern Italy have similar homicide rates to NYC
