I'm glad you explained that you only misspell words to keep people on their toes or I would have to cringe at those spellings.

OK I am coming out with a secret here folks so feel honored. I don't share this much but it might let others think about this subject a little deeper. If I misspell something I do try to proof read my posts a few times before posting. Then see it posted and see grammar or spelling mistakes. Grrrrrr.

In all honesty I am proud of whatever I get to post because I had a brain injury that left me with NO memory. I had to go through memory therapy to learn my kid's names, bdays, how to cook, etc, I still have trouble with numbers and get left & right mixed up but I can type! I have come a long way baby and I am pea pickin' proud of it. So if I make a mistake in words or correctly aligning them please forgive me if it bothers you. Some posters might have an illness, injury or lack of schooling because of no fault of their own. These little burps that bugs us won't matter in the big picture just be happy we are able to share advice, experiences, highs, lows and even humor with others we wouldn't if it was not for the Internet and CD since this is where we all are.

On the 'official record' of this topic yes I do see our country becoming more of a problem with people not being able to communicate properly. But I ain't sweatin' the small stuff like how somebody posts on a forum over it.

Peace.

Thanx for the response on my spellin. Gee, it kinda makes mi day. Once in a while, I will make a word wrong to bring about a response. This time it worked again. (no offense to anyone). In college took a brief course in Psychology and have to practice a little bit. At my age, need to work the area upstairs a little more often. I hope a person reading my post can arouse their thinking cap a little and maybe do some wonders like being contagious towards other posts. Steve

In a word: Spellcheck. It's the same argument as allowing children to use calculators for arithmetic in the early grades. "Why should they have to bog themselves down with simple math when technology is available?" Grrrr...

I have had numerous discussions with teachers about how I don't have to worry so much about my child's spelling skills because writing will soon be done via word processing. Needless to say, you are not the only one this situation irritates.

The catch in relying on spellcheck is that it only offers options. You still need to know how to spell the word in order to use it correctly. From what I can see, the problem comes down to laziness--which is much more polite than running around and screaming "Ignorance!"

Thank you for this thread. As a junior high school student, I participated in the Scripps-Howard National Spelling Bee and placed second in city competition. The word "catarrh" was my downfall. To this day, every time I think of it, I have to get the dictionary. LOL. The kids that compete today in the Spelling Bee are just amazing because the words come from so many different languages.

Interchanging "lose" and "loose" is probably the grammatical error I see most often on City Data.

Whether it's the internet, lack of drilling on grammar and spelling in school or "teaching to the test", certainly something is amiss in our public education system. With the tough job market today, grammar and spelling skills are more important than ever. One small spelling or grammatical error can mean a rejection.

I am admittedly the worst speller. If given a spell check feature I always use it but in a forum environment where you have to copy/paste into a Word document I tend to not bother. Unless I am debating with someone and want to appear more intelligent that I evidently am.
