OK, for the story behind it. Many decades ago my dad worked for mining company and sleeping on the job was a firing offense. Well one of his friends fell asleep sitting up on an orange crate during the night. Two supervisors walked up and caught him and called his name. Instead of looking up and answering them he just kept looking down and finally said "Look at all them ants". He kept his job even though there was not an ant in site. The brass didn't bother to get down close enough to look.
Seems to be a lot of ants on computer screens in some offices.

Dumb it down. (It means you are so full of crap that nobody is going to take you seriously).

Smarten it up. (Means that you are running the risk of everyone understanding what you're saying and being able to respond to it. This is not a good thing if you're trying to be a politician or the chair of a committee or something).
