What has happened to our educational system?

tbh, it doesn't bother me. It does in an office context, ESPECIALLY when one of my superiors uses bad grammar, but in creative writing I am quite OK with it. English is a living, evolving language, and letting go of some of the strict rules can lead to a better, more original product at times.

I don't even think "proper grammar" is proper grammar. I think it would be more grammatically correct to say "correct grammar", or "the correct use of grammar". Any English teachers out there to confirm?

Yes the purpose of creative writing is often to elicit a specific response and liberties are sometimes taken. This is fine, as long as the author has a good command of the language and is specifically making that choice.

Complaints here are about, I believe, sloppy dullards who really don't give a hoot. It comes back to bite them when they have problems presenting themselves at interviews, or when their children make flubs at school for lack of better role models.

Reynoldo5000 Your inquiry has some improper grammar !! "themself" should be "himself," followed by "his" post, not "their" post.

Food products are marked with a "Best by" date. Shouldn't that be "Better by"?

There are only two things being compared: The product before a specified date, or after a specified date. The comparison should be that it is better by a date, than after the date.

You might have to send an email, Ray hasn't been on C-D for over a year.

I suspect that most of us would agree: communication is a good thing. That being said, why must you use abbreviations (that might not be understood by everyone)? That's not good communication.

I thought that was a sound effect.
