Frequently seen in the online version of my local newspaper:
Unknown suspect <did something bad>
No. Just no. That is an oxymoron.
A suspect is someone that is, well, suspected. People suspect something about him or her. The individual needs to have an identity.
If he is unknown, s/he is just an unknown person, because there is nobody to suspect.
"Get your signature witnessed by a Notary Republic."
This was said to me by someone I (had previously) believed to be very educated.
In the NYC/Northern NJ area, there are a lot of older people who refer to the Port Authority Bus Terminal as the "Port OF Authority Bus Terminal".
I suspect that many of these folks would go to a "Notary Republic".
