Well, I've already stated this a number of times on other threads, that we will be in Cheyenne for a few days just prior to CFD opening next month.

I make statements, like: Why we have such a high interest in rodeo. As in going to them and pictures on our walls. I have made statements about other pictures on our walls concerning tv cowboys I use to watch. I've made a statement about our 5 foot miniature display of farm and ranch. figurines/equipment/tractors/livestock. Just happen to have a high interest in farms/ranches.

Now, just why do I make these statements? To, hopefully help those in this forum understand why we have such an interest in Wyoming and whether it's in Cheyenne or somewhere else in Wyoming, to be around and talk to those with the same interests.

Now, I do hope this explains us better.

And, now were are putting together an rather large scrapbook of cut-out pictures from Farm & Ranch Magazine.

As well as, our living room walls are adorned with framed rodeo pictures (we taken), a wall of old western tv stars and their horses and yet another wall of Old West people (Buffalo Bill Cody, Annie Oakley and others).

I really don't know what else would "fit in" in Cheyenne or in Wyoming in general.
I do. Being a conservative Republican, supporting President Trump, always carrying a gun or two, hating Biden and his kind, and never stop talking about it.

https://rodeosusa.com/rodeo/wyoming/

Unless you can find a group of 60s/70s y/o's that are heavily involved in rodeo, then you might have a hard time finding a group of like seniors to be social with. Have you looked up the age demographics for Cheyenne? If so, how many people are listed in your age group? I'm sure some of them will be interested in ranching and rodeo, and wanting to talk about them. Kind of like fishing, hunting, car or gun enthusiasts can talk about their subject day in and day out. Your goal should be to find a group of rodeo enthusiasts just like you. Cheyenne is probably just as good of town as any. Even though you don't want to do it, you may have to suck it up and volunteer. Maybe you could join a CFD planning group for the 2023 event. Then you'd be around some people that are working rodeo long before next year's event (you might even get paid?). I would think those are the folks that might want to talk rodeo for more than a couple weeks around any rodeo event. They likely won't be like the majority of folks who enjoy the events, but then never think about heelers, wrestlers, bronc riders, or cutting horses until next year's event. If you don't find those rodeo enthusiasts then you are likely to end up at McDs drinking coffee with seniors that could care less about hearing your rodeo stories, and just want to complain about how Cheyenne is changing with all the new young people moving in.

Good Luck BB2. Enjoy your visits to Cheyenne this year and hopefully you learn a good deal about the city and where it is heading.
I don't think the rodeo season is shorter in Wyoming than in other states. During northern winter months, PRCA rodeos are indoors, like in Houston, Ft Worth, Austin and in southern states. Actually, Denver, CO rodeo is held in January, inside their coliseum. One year, as we were leaving the Denver Stock Show/Rodeo, a full-blown blizzard was going on outside. It started while the rodeo was going on. PRCA rodeos go on all year long, and, with the Cowboy Channel, we can see every one of them without leaving our living room.

So, are you saying that the age group in Cheyenne and the one that is moving in, is very young? That is what has been, and still is, happening here all along The Front Range. It really looks like all of the "new kids on the block" came right out of Los Angeles or the local young kids want to look like them.

It also seems like the seniors there at McDonalds, will talk about the same things that seniors here at local McDonald's will. Just ask any of them what they think about what's happened to Loveland and they will give you a mouthful of dislikes about what has happened to their city. Of course, it's no longer their city anymore and they will let you know how they feel about that also.

Now, my major question would be, where are all of these young people coming from?? A non-winter area where they will get hit with reality when winter hits? Do they know, or even care, what Wyoming is really about (cowboys/rodeo/ranching)?

And, we won't be moving until this time next year. That is, where ever we decide to move to. We are really leaning towards Sheridan, but do want to check out Cheyenne anyway.

BTW, thanks for the reply.

Well, we will never/ever carry a gun and, plain and simple, don't have to. As for Trump, he ruined his re-election with his speech of "go get 'em" to Capitol rioters. Don't get me wrong, Trump did do a great job in office, but what he said at that podium on January 6th, well...........

Neither of us talk politics that much or at all. So, whatever anyone thinks of Biden, Harris or the others in the White House, that's up to them.

Just hope we get a better President for next election. Can always hope!

You're a good fit in Colorado. You'd be a pariah in Wyoming.

Who Is A Good Fit For Cheyenne?
  1. Working class (singles preferred, as stay-at-home-spouses are NOT always happy staying at home in Cheyenne)
  2. Military (temporary assignment)
  3. Retiree escapees from the 'greenie state' (short-term (give it 3-5 yrs)
and short-sighted (is 'income tax free' really worth it (likely not), unless they are returning to their childhood home) SD will probably be the retiree escapee next destination, as they can not afford to 'go-back' to the paradise they had, but didn't realize until they 'sold-out', now they can't afford to return.

BTW:
You can get all the demographic info you desire (and far more that you will ever need) from Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce) They will ship you a packet (for free) that will keep you busy all winter. and it will be far better info than you will get here.

Now, our biggest thrill is going to a rodeo, see a movie at a theater, going to a casino or, if we still have it, taking our boat out on a lake. Basically, very little physical stuff anymore.
Two ladies are 76 and 80, law enforcement 50s-75, the family man late 60s and wife also. It sounds like you’d do best in a city environment … Cheyenne or possibly somewhere near where you live now IMHO. Good luck to you wherever you end up.

My son doesn't mind Cheyenne, but then his jobs there. When he left Wyoming, it was for 3 years in Taylorsville Utah. Just a trip to Walmart there took longer than it takes him to get to out of the city limits of Cheyenne in. He grew up in Star Valley, went to Laramie to UW took 2 years out of college and went on a LDS mission to Cota Rica finished college. then Helped us move to Cabin Creek, 500 miles from the old ranch. He helped on the Ranch and worked For Driskill's in the Summer at Devils Tower. Till he got the job in Utah. So he lived on the westside the SE and NE of Wyoming.
