Description: Located along the banks of the White River, the 95-acre Holliday Park is one of the city’s oldest. The park features a wooded area with natural springs and wetlands, a pond, long stretch of the White River, beech-maple forest, and more than 400 species of trees, shrubs, and wildflowers. While hiking the 2 miles of trails that wind through the forest, bird watchers have spotted more than 200 species of birds. Deer, fox, beaver, rabbits, squirrel, and other native animals can sometimes been seen in the park’s heavily wooded ravines. Amenities include a nature center with interactive exhibit hall and live animals, playground, picnic tables, 3 miles of hiking trails with access to the White River and an extensive arboretum.

Description: Established in 1921, JTV Hill Park was dedicated to James Thomas Vastine Hill, one of Indy’s first African-American lawyers who later served as a Marion County deputy prosecutor. The park features a recreation center, gym, shuffleboard, playground, softball field, soccer field, football field, and outdoor basketball courts.

Description: Once the Krannert YMCA, Krannert Park became a city park in 1972. The park features year-round indoor swimming as well as an outdoor pool. Other amenities include a family center, wooded area, pond, trails, playground, weight room, two picnic shelters, four tennis courts, three softball diamonds, football field, and outdoor basketball court.

Description: Before opening as a public park in 1952, Municipal Gardens was a private canoe and yacht club as well as a popular dance hall. Amenities include a gymnasium, multipurpose rooms, kitchen, spray pool, shelter, playground, and outdoor basketball court.

Description: Offering 117 acres of recreational opportunities, Northwestway Park includes a 135,000-gallon outdoor swimming pool with a zero-depth entry and a fan-shaped area with many water play features, including the largest body slide in the park system. The park also has Little Eagle Creek, an open prairie, playground, picnic tables, picnic shelters and grills, basketball court, soccer fields, disk golf course, baseball fields, softball fields, and a fitness trail.

Description: When the local school district needed more room for a middle school in 1993, properties were merged to create Raymond Park Middle School and Indy Island Aquatic Center. The park offers a wide variety of programs and activities for all ages. Amenities include an indoor pool, wetlands, prairie lands, trail, baseball fields, outdoor basketball courts, community room with kitchenette, concession stand, and locker rooms with showers.

Description: A supervised and unsupervised play area, Rhodius Park has served the West Indy community for more than three decades and is popular for its youth programming. A new family center includes a fitness center, youth game room, large community room, dance studio, arts and crafts area, conference room, full kitchen, computer lab, library, and new restrooms. Rhodius Park also has a picnic shelter, playground, baseball field, basketball court, tennis court, trail, weight room, gym, and sledding hill.

Description: Enjoy the miles of bike paths in downtown Indy. Look for the bike kiosk in White River State Park by the Indiana State Museum.
