Description: A general interest magazine about all things Kentucky, Kentucky Monthly was founded in 1998 by Stephen Vest, Kay Vest, and Michael Embry. Based in Frankfort, the state capital, the magazine features all aspects of contemporary Kentucky culture and presents an annual Kentuckian of the Year award. In 2005 Kentucky Monthly was featured in the Stu Pollard film, Keep Your Distance, in a scene where the main character was presented with the award. In the same year, KM also received the “Governor’s Awards in the Arts” for media, the Commonwealth’s highest prize in the arts. In addition to regular columns about regional history, sites of interest to travelers, and sports, patrons can also read up on the trends in Bluegrass cooking, dining, arts, and literature. Famous Kentuckians are profiled as well: George Clooney was featured on the very first—and the 101st—cover.
