Accommodations - Wiscasset, Maine

1. Marston House

City: Wiscasset, ME
Category: Accommodations
Telephone: (207) 882-6010
Address: Main St. at Middle St.

Description: Mainers like to joke that every other person who visits the coast wants to return and open a bed-and-breakfast—and the rest want to open antiques shops. At the Marston House, the proprietors apparently couldn’t decide between the two, so they’ve done both. In the front of their Main Street building is an antiques shop, specializing in smalls, folk art, painted furniture, and textiles. Upstairs are two very fine guest rooms with fireplaces, queen-size beds, private baths, and private entrances. Sunlit and airy, they’re as tasteful as the goods in the store. Breakfast can be served in room if you like. Rates are quite reasonable—extremely reasonable, really, for such a nice place. Open from early May through October.

2. Snow Squall

City: Wiscasset, ME
Category: Accommodations
Telephone: (207) 882-6892
Address: Route 1 and Bradford Rd.

Description: The theme of clipper ships carries through this 1850s-era inn—the Snow Squall was a famous clipper, and each of the seven guest rooms is named after other vessels. All of the rooms have private baths and phones. Two have working fireplaces, all but one are air-conditioned, and a few have private decks. They’re all well appointed, featuring a king- or queen-size bed, and the suites have accommodations fit for families. Enjoy a spell in a rocker on the porch or in one of the cushy chairs in front of the fire in the living room. Rates include a full breakfast.
