Restaurants - Wiscasset, Maine

1. Legarage

City: Wiscasset, ME
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (207) 882-5409
Address: Water St.

Description: When they built the garage here in the 1920s, they gave it a remarkable view of the Sheepscot River. Now it’s a restaurant, which puts the panorama to good use—walls of glass on the porch frame the scene nicely. LeGarage is known for its lamb and its finnan haddie (which Mainers line up for), but it has plenty of seafood and vegetarian options as well. Try the lobster pie. Sit on the porch. Open for lunch and dinner and for Sunday brunch.

2. Red’S Eats

City: Wiscasset, ME
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (207) 882-6128
Address: Water and Main St.

Description: This tiny red shack on Route 1 is legendary for its lobster rolls—they’ve been voted the best in Maine many times over and been featured in innumerable magazines and newspaper articles from coast to coast. And deservedly so. These hot-dog-roll delicacies aren’t exactly cheap, but they’re worth every penny. More than one whole lobster supposedly goes into just one roll, and you can choose the amount of mayo or butter you want to add. Other options include plain ol’ dogs, fried shrimp, and fried clams. Classic. Just be prepared to wait. Lines are so long on Main Street it looks like a parade.
