Category: Parks & Recreation
Telephone: (207) 882-9066
Address: 271 Old Bath Rd.

Description: A spirited explorer who’s out in all kinds of weather, Kurt Geib specializes in custom fitting tours to clients. He’ll take people on half-day tours on the Sheepscot River, full-day paddles around Midcoast islands, or anywhere else you’d like to explore. He’ll tote along some food, too, and he’ll bring “other types of toys to play with.” Two-hour tours, which he recommends for families, are $35, four hours are $75, and daylong outings are $95. As he says, “We have some ideas, but yours might be better. Let us see what we can come up with.” Geib’s a neat character. He might even quote some Zappa for you.

2. Nickels-Sortwell House

City: Wiscasset, ME
Category: Parks & Recreation
Telephone: (207) 882-7169
Address: Route 1

Description: If Wiscasset is the “Prettiest Village in Maine” (which is debatable), it is pretty old houses like this one that are the reason why. The 1807 house museum sits on a plot that was landscaped in 1926 by noted architect Charles Eliott II and it’s a National Historic Landmark.
