Description: Fresh local seafood served broiled or fried, crab cakes packed with jumbo lump meat, and Hatteras or New England clam chowder are among the most popular offerings here. Crab puffs and stuffed flounder are house specialties. The Quarterdeck has an 18-item salad bar. For dessert the coconut cream, lemon meringue, and key lime pies are delicious. Beer and wine are available, as is a children’s menu. This low-key spot occupies a 70-year-old building that housed Hatteras Island’s original bar. Since 1978, the same family has owned and operated the Quarterdeck, which is open for lunch and dinner daily (except on Sat, when it is not open for lunch) from mid-March through late Nov.

Description: From this tiny cottage flanked by gingerbread-style fencing, breakfast and dinner are served Monday through Saturday in season. To start the day sample egg biscuits, french toast, omelets, or waffles. If you’d rather indulge yourself in delicious baked goods, try a frosted doughnut, cookie, or freshly made bagel. By early evening you can order a gourmet pizza made on the bakery’s own dough. Crusts range in thickness from hand tossed to pan depth and are offered in white and whole wheat varieties with 30 toppings to choose from. Ice cream, brownies, and sweet breads all are great dessert options. During the summer the Gingerbread House also delivers from Buxton to Hatteras Village, and its bakers make super specialty cakes on a day’s notice for any occasion. No credit cards accepted.
