Description: A Fourth of July specialty, the Bank of the West Concert in Omaha’s Memorial Park is one of the most popular summertime events. The free show always features some big name bands: In 2010 it was Styx, Foreigner, and Kansas. The free event draws thousands of people to the park to dance, relax, and celebrate the holiday. Concert goers are encouraged to give a donation while at the event that supports an Omaha-based charitable organization. Parking is limited at the event, and carpooling is strongly advised. The park opens at 5 a.m. the day of the concert and people arrive early to claim the best spots. Alcohol isn’t allowed, though food is and a select amount of vendors sell food during the show. A grandiose fireworks show closes the night. In the event of bad weather, the show is not rescheduled.
