Insider Pick:

Description: Just a few minutes from shopping and eating in South Lincoln, Roca’s Wunder Roost is a country farm that’s close enough to the city to offer the best of both worlds. The century-old farmstead and country square is 8 miles from Lincoln. The Wunder Rosa Winery is a short walk from the B&B and only two miles from the Jamaica Homestead Bike Trail. Wunder Roost has lots of amenities, including wireless Internet, a hot tub, a wood-burning stove, outdoor gardens, a private second floor entrance, and deck. The decor is decidedly country chic, with rustic yet comfortable chairs and seating, lots of blonde wood, and cozy handmade quilts.

2. Roca Berry Farm

City: Roca, NE
Category: Tours & Attractions
Telephone: (402) 421-2255
Address: 16531 S. 38th St.

Description: What started out as a you-pick-it berry operation has grown into one of the area’s largest agritourism attractions. Each spring, visitors can pick their own strawberries at Roca, beginning around Memorial Day weekend and continuing for three weeks. During strawberry season, the farm offers a “harvest hotline” to keep visitors up-to-date on what can be picked each day and what the conditions are like. Berries cost 99 cents per pound, and you can either bring your own box or get one at the farm for 50 cents. School tours and summer camps are available but reservations are required. The Roca pumpkin patch opens in late September and continues business until early November. Three haunted barns, two tricycle trails, a straw jumping pile, and a life-size Candyland game are just a few of what Roca offers in the fall. Roca’s website offers a printable coupon for $1 off a pumpkin that weighs more than 10 pounds. At 6 p.m. each night, the Roca Scary Farm takes over, and the main attraction is the Psycho Path and hayride, which includes four haunted houses. The night activities aren’t recommended for children under 10 years old. Older kids and adults, though, get the bonus of a free s’more if they’re one of the first 100 guests on a Friday evening.
