Description: Brownell Talbot is Nebraska’s only independently run private school. Located in historic Dundee in midtown Omaha, the school enrolls students beginning in pre-school all the way through grade 12. The school has been operating in the city for close to 150 years; the independent nature of the school lets it set its own curriculum, much of which is college preparatory. A board of trustees governs the school and the parents of its students pay a premium for their kids to attend.The school recently did a survey of its parents to find out why they sent their children to Brownell, and the overwhelming answer was for college preparatory class work. Other reasons included being able to participate in a number of different activities, knowing students in all grade levels, and developing a strong work ethic as a student.Half of Brownell instructors have advanced degrees and more than half have been teachers for ten years or more.
