Description: The appearance of Kilkenny’s is closer to the popular idea of an Irish pub than most pubs in Ireland. Dark wood arches and booths, patterned tiles reminiscent of the floor of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, stained glass, and a faux-smoked ceiling add to the charm. Irish music completes the ambience. Some of the entrees are Irish in name only—the Ballybello, a grilled, burger-style mushroom on a toasted Kaiser roll, or the Bananas O’Foster—but the colcannon, cottage pie, and boxty will shake your shillelagh. Many first-timers want an authentic Irish dish and often choose the boxty, a grilled potato pancake stuffed with a variety of fillings. Most popular are the Kilmacow—seared beef slow-cooked with portobello mushrooms and herbs and topped with Irish whiskey sauce—or the Chatsworth—tender, slow-cooked chicken breast sautéed with fresh garlic, shallots, mushrooms, and red peppers in white wine, finished with white wine sauce. And the fish and chips is superb. There’s a full bar—and a beautiful bar it is. Parking is available behind the restaurant. Kilkenny’s is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week with an added late-morning brunch on Sat and Sun.
