Description: The Virginia Living Museum sponsors this annual two-day tribute to our native surroundings the third weekend in November. More than 40 artists display and sell a wide range of wildlife art—from stained glass and jewelry to oils, watercolors, and one-of-a-kind photography and sculpture. Live animal shows and exhibits are part of the fun. Children 12 and younger are admitted free. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sat and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sun.

Description: Colonial Williamsburg and the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg cosponsor the lighting of an evergreen at 5:30 p.m. Christmas Eve on Market Square. A crowd of thousands gathers at the steps of the Courthouse on the Duke of Gloucester Street in the Historic Area. Guests will learn the story of the first Christmas tree in Williamsburg at the St. George Tucker House. The president of the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg and the mayor of Williamsburg deliver holiday remarks.

Description: Remember when you were little and your parents would pile you in the car and drive up and down the neighborhood streets to look at all of the splendid and not-so-splendid Christmas lights? Whether they were terrific or tacky, they all served to spark a little holiday magic. Since 1993, Newport News has re-created and magnified that magic about a million times over with its annual Festival of Lights from Thanksgiving through New Year’s. Two miles of animated scenes dazzle folks driving through Newport News Park. Cost is $10 per car.

Description: As the official start to the holiday season, the Williamsburg Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors its annual Christmas Parade the first Saturday in December, the day preceding Colonial Williamsburg’s Grand Illumination. The ever-popular parade, which began in 1964, typically draws 100 or more floats, marching bands, and other entrants. The parade route begins at 9 a.m. in the Historic Area and proceeds down Richmond Road to William and Mary Hall.

Description: One evening in early December, area families are invited to hold aloft candles and walk down Main Street to participate in the annual holiday tree-lighting fun.
