The City News is an African American owned newspaper that was first printed on a memo-graph machine loaned to the publiser James Taylor Sr. by then Pembroke Supervisor Robert Hayes and Township Clerk Mrs. Jackie Stampley. Today the City News is part of the largest chain of African American owned newspapers in the south suburban region. The City News publishers publish: The Joliet City News, The University Park News and the South Suburban News. Total publication is 50,000 copies (combined) per week. The company employes 15 individuals. The staff is a rainbow group with Blacks, Whites and Hispanic reporters, photo editors and distribution staff. The company also produces a cable television program, "From Here to There" In Kankakee County the program airs each Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. on channel 19.
